This cobalt blue coloured Frog Mug has been wheel formed and hand modelled by my potter husband Graham, AKA Potted History. The decoration on the outside and the painting of the frog was done by me. The frog is lime green, with darker green spots, orange bands on the back and green above the eyes.
Drinking games and puzzles have long been a feature of traditional British pubs and inns. These mugs are based on joke beer mugs, which have a ceramic frog in the bottom of the vessel- which can only be seen once the drinker has finished their drink! In some historic versions, the frog is left hollow, so that it creates a stream of bubbles that rise through the drink - but in the interests of modern standards of hygiene these ones are solid.
It is 11cm high, with a diameter of 10cm and holds approximately 450ml or 3/4 of a pint.
