For a few precious weeks each year, the hills are transformed as the heather bursts into flower, creating a patchwork of purple, lilac and rich magenta stretching across the moors.

It is a spectacular display, but one that never lasts quite long enough. As summer gives way to autumn, the vivid purples gradually disappear, replaced by deeper shades of burnt orange, maroon and iron red.

I wanted this painting to capture that brief moment when Redesdale is at its most colourful, with the little cottage giving a sense of scale to the vast landscape surrounding it.

A lovely original painting for anyone who knows and loves Redesdale, or who simply has a soft spot for Northumberland's wilder places. Its rich colours would also make a beautiful little focal point in a room and bring a glimpse of the Northumbrian hills into your home throughout the year.

This was painted onto textured heavy weight paper, using Artist's professional acrylic paint.

It is ready to hang, and framed in a bespoke solid oak frame which is 26 cm square.
