This small painting is of a puffin I encountered on Inner Farne off the coast of Northumberland. The parent birds take it in turns to protect the nest from marauding gulls and flying out to sea to catch food for their single puffling baby. Returning after each fishing trip, the adult bird then has to avoid being "mugged" by opportunistic gulls.
Their underground burrows are nestled in swathes of sea campion and "Good King Henry" plants, with the occasional thistle.
This was painted onto textured heavy weight paper, using Artist's professional acrylic paints and Artist's Medium, giving a shiny finish on the water.
It is ready to hang, and framed in a bespoke solid oak frame which is 26 cm square. The painted area is 12 cm square.
This series of small paintings are small enough to hang anywhere- an awkward space or on a staircase, but with enough presence to always look great- singly or as a group. Hang them in blocks, vertical rows or horizonal lines.
