Lindisfarne Castle From Ross Sands- Original Painting

Regular price £195.00

Ross Sands is comparatively inaccessible beach on the Northumbrian coast, lying between Holy Island and Bamburgh.  As the only parking is over a mile from the beach, it requires a walk through sand dunes to get to the long sweeping bay. This makes it a quieter beach than most- a haven for the serious nature lover, rather than those looking for seaside attractions. It's a wild, timeless place, where the weather seems more extreme, as there's so little shelter from sun or wind.

This viewpoint shows Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island across the narrow stretch of sea.

This small painting was painted on wooden ply gesso board, which gives a fine, smooth painting surface and a very durable support.  (Paintings created on gesso board in the Medieaval period still hang in galleries all round the world.) It has been finished with two layers of UVA protecrtive matt varnish, to protect against light and mechanical damage.

The painted area is 20 by 20 cm. It has been finished with two layers of UVA protective matt varnish, to guard against light and mechanical damage.  It is ready to hang and framed in a bespoke "double" frame, without glass. The outer dimensions of the framed work is 35 cm square.
