Each year in May the hedgerows of Rothbury are transformed into a froth of flowers when the hawthorn blossom appears. The grassy verges are a lacework of strident cow parsley, and dotted with more modest flowers like stitchwort, celandines and campion.
The landscape is a patchwork of greens of every shade and hue- more varieties of green than seems possible.
It's always a beautiful, uplifting sight to see the village gently nestled in the valley below, surrounded by this verdant growth. Summer won't be far away now.
