This painting, "Simonside in Spring - Rothbury" is of the slopes of Simonside at Easter time, when the distant fields begin to fill with early wheat and the hares perform their gymnastic mating dances. The trees are covered in pale pink and orange buds, ready to burst into bright blossom or fresh green leaves. It's a time of re-awakenings, with the iconic skyline of Simonside as a backdrop.
It would make a great companion piece to my other painting "Tulip O'Clock- Rothbury", which is the same size.
It was painted on wooden ply gesso board, which gives a fine, smooth painting surface and a very durable support. (Paintings created on gesso board in the Medieval period still hang in galleries all round the world.) It has been finished with two layers of UVA protective matt varnish, to protect against light and mechanical damage.
