It's always a long awaited treat to see the first snowdrops of the year, pushing their way through the undergrowth- or even snow - of early Spring. The delicate bright white flowers stand out against the carpet of twigs and leaves littering the woodland floor. It seems almost miraculous that something as fragile looking as a snowdrop, can fight its way through the icy, inhospitable earth and emerge so clean and fresh.
