Spring Walk on Hadrian's Wall Original Painting

Regular price £590.00

This painting, Spring Walk on Hadrian's Wall, was based on photographs by the very generous Pete Savin, who is a mine of information on The Wall and all things Roman.

It features a section of the Wall at Walltown Crags, where it dips and dives along the Whin Sill, with broad sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The bright fields of winter wheat seem to glow in the sunshine. The trees and shrubs are covered in buds, ready to burst into blossom and leaves.  It's a spectacular viewpoint, full of colour and drama.

This would make an excellent companion piece to my other painting, The Long and Winding Path- Hadrian's Wall.

It was painted on wooden ply gesso board, which gives a fine, smooth painting surface and a very durable support.  (Paintings created on gesso board in the Medieval period still hang in galleries all round the world.) It has been finished with two layers of UVA protective matt varnish, to protect against light and mechanical damage.

The painted area is 33 by 35 cm. It has been finished with two layers of UVA protective matt varnish, to guard against light and mechanical damage.  It is ready to hang and framed in a bespoke "double" frame, without glass. The outer dimensions of the framed work is 47 by 50 cm.
