Sycamore Gap Snow - Original Painting

Christmas is a family time- full of memories of happy times past and anticipation of good times ahead.

Every February, I paint the six small paintings that are destined to become that year's Christmas cards selection. They're filled with images of my grandchildren, set in familiar places and overlaid with recollections of the adventures we've enjoyed together. They always hope to see snow at Christmas- so I paint it for them.

Sycamore Gap has long been one of our favourite spots on Hadrian's Wall. My experimental archaeologist husband has a replica Roman Kiln at Vindolanda, so we often have occasion to visit that, then afterwards take a walk to The Gap. No matter the time of year, or the weather there's always someone at this iconic spot. Now that the tree has been so tragically and illegally felled, a much loved place feels different. But I hope that Mother Nature is going to be allowed to do her thing and that in Spring, new shoots will appear and regrowth begin.

This small original painting was painted onto textured heavy weight paper, using Artist's professional acrylic paints.

It is ready to hang, and framed in a bespoke solid oak frame which is 26 cm square. The painted area is 12 cm square.

This series of small paintings are small enough to hang anywhere- an awkward space or on a staircase,  but with enough presence to always look great- singly or as a group. Hang them in blocks, vertical rows or horizonal lines.
