There's something quite magical about seeing waterlilies floating across a large pond. The reflections of the sky, glimpses down through the surface of the water to the depths below and light reflecting off the different levels, make one's focus and perceptions keep shifting. I have attempted to capture this sense of ever moving views and a sense of hidden depths, by using heavily texture paint effects for the water. In contrast the leaves and flowers are painted using smooth layers of colour.
My nearest lily pond is in the formal gardens of nearby Cragside House, a much loved National Trust property.
This painting was created using Artist's acrylic paints on a canvasboard.
The painted image is 30 by 40 cm. It is ready to hang and framed in a bespoke "double" frame, making the the outer dimensions of the framed work 45 by 55.5 cm.
