I can still remember the very first time I saw Cragside House as a small child on a school trip. We'd walked for what seemed like hours through a "massive shrubbery" it seemed to me and I was puzzled as to why we'd been dragged there. Then suddenly we were on the iron bridge, gazing upwards at the house with its towers and glinting windows like a fairytale castle, and it all made sense.
Whenever I'm fortunate enough to see the house covered in snow, I still experience that sense of childlike wonder.
