Thrum Mill is situated on the river Coquet just downstream of Rothbury, and has long been a favourite walk and picnic spot for local residents and visitors alike. It has been featured extensively on Channel Four’s ‘Restoration Man’ with George Clark.
It’s always a great subject to paint as the narrow gorge is filled with dark shadows and bright reflections as the river flows over the mill’s weir and through the rocks.
In Autumn the yellow and russet leaves can turn the river into burnished gold.
