Thrum Mill Spring Print 0036

The Thrum is a favourite beauty spot in Rothbury, which is enjoyed all year round by residents and visitors alike.

A short minute walk downstream from Rothbury, along the tree lined pathway called “Lovers’ Walk”, The River Coquet takes on a whole new personality at the Thrum. Here the slow, ponderous river is forced through a narrow gorge, causing the placid water to pick up speed and become an urgent tumbling torrent. It’s a place of noisy cascades, deep, dark shadows and bright reflected sunlight. The relentless water has scoured and sculpted the submerged rock into scalloped frills. For generations people have carved their names into the exposed rocks, creating a palimpsest of Northumbrian surnames.

If this scene looks familiar, it's probably because you've seen in in various TV programmes, from Robson Green’sTales of Northumberland, to Vera. The ancient Mill itself has enjoyed a full restoration, inside and out which was recorded in George Clark’s Restoration Man on Channel 4. It is now a much loved family home.

Like all of my standard prints, this is printed with a white border, on a heavy duty matt archival quality paper, using pigment based professional colours, to produce a fine quality print that will give decades of pleasure.  Title and artist's signature on the lower edge of the border.
