If you prefer something a little more abstract and ethereal this may be the perfect image for you.
In August we enjoyed a succession of beautiful sunsets in Northumberland. So one evening, having consulted the tide tables, we decided to drive to Holy Island in the hope of capturing some good photographs for me to work from. The tide was very low, exposing the wet, reflective sands. In the harbour there was a man doing some work on one of the small boats propped up in the mud and we could hear a strange eerie singing, which seemed to be coming from this boat. It sounded so otherworldly, that it made me puzzle at his choice of such exotic listening. What on earth was he listening to? What country could it be from? I just couldn't imagine. But it was beautiful and haunting.
It was only after we had walked all round the island that I suddenly realised that what we were hearing was actually seals singing, rather than human voices...... Or could it have been mermaids, singing their siren song? Whichever it was, we stood in the twilight watching the sunset paint the sky in vivid colours behind Bamburgh Castle and listening to the magical serenade.
