Once a very common sight, house sparrow numbers are now in decline. But I have a large extended family of them living in the garden area outside my studio window. They squabble, chatter, eat all the berries on my red currant bushes and sit on the sill to watch me as I paint.
These ceramic versions are 8.5 cm across at the widest point, each is approx 5 mm thick and unglazed on the back. They hang on 9mm wide ribbon printed with a leaf pattern.
They were made with loving care to my own design in my artist's studio, using white earthenware clay.
They were bisque fired, then individually hand-painted using appropriate underglaze colours before being glazed with a clear, non toxic glaze. The glost firing at 1130 degrees C transformed the pieces into durable birds with a beautiful, shiny finish.
Being individually hand painted, the birds you receive may vary slightly from the ones illustrated.
You're sure to find the perfect place to hang your sparrows for the whole year round- in the conservatory, from the branches of a pot plant, the knob of a cupboard or drawer, on a picture hook..... But when it comes to Christmas they can go on your tree.
