Strips of colourful meadow flowers in fields, are becoming an increasingly common sight in Northumberland.  These are known as pollinator strips, as they are specifically planted to attract and support pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. They have been found to improve crop yields, reduce the need for commercial pollinators and provide essential pollen and nectar for pollinators and also support natural pest control by attracting beneficial insects. Many of the plants also act as a green manure, when ploughed back into the ground at the end of the growing season.

Best of all they also look beautiful, recollecting days gone by when flower meadows were a more common sight. This particular field was a cheery mix of scarlet poppies, phacelia with its blue /purple flowers, various yellow and white daisies, and random other wild flowers. A glorious mix.

This work was painted onto textured heavy weight paper, using Artist's professional acrylic paint.
