Lindisfarne Castle With Northern Lights Original Painting

Regular price £195.00

Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island sits high on a volcanic mound, next to the sea, like a beautiful fairytale castle. The footpath spirals round the steep hillside, winding its way up to the entrance.

Perched above the surrounding island, it's a focal point for miles. Always an uplifting and atmospheric setting, it's a most wonderful place to experience a display of The Northern Lights.  Early in 2022, Northumberland had a number of showings of the Aurora Borealis, where the clear, dry Northern sky was washed with cherry reds, acid yellow and neon greens.

This small painting was painted on wooden ply gesso board, which gives a fine, smooth painting surface and a very durable support.  (Paintings created on gesso board in the Medieaval period still hang in galleries all round the world.) It has been finished with two layers of UVA protecrtive matt varnish, to protect against light and mechanical damage.

The painted area is 20 by 20 cm. It has been finished with two layers of UVA protective matt varnish, to guard against light and mechanical damage.  It is ready to hang and framed in a bespoke "double" frame, without glass. The outer dimensions of the framed work is 35 cm square.
