This small painting is of the northern lights as seen from Rothbury Bridge on November 10th 2024.
I usually go out of the village to watch the aurora, but that evening I'd already decided that I didn't feel inclined to stand in the cold waiting for them to appear. But when a neighbour kindly messaged to say the lights were visible, it seemed rude to ignore her. So camera and phone in hand, I walked to the end of
the street and onto the bridge to have a look up the valley.
And this is the result.
It was painted onto textured heavy weight paper, using Artist's professional acrylic paints and Artist's Medium, giving a shiny finish on the water.
It is ready to hang, and framed in a bespoke solid oak frame which is 26 cm square. The painted area is 12 cm square.
This series of small paintings are small enough to hang anywhere- an awkward space or on a staircase, but with enough presence to always look great- singly or as a group. Hang them in blocks, vertical rows or horizonal lines.
